What size storage unit do I need?
Choosing the right storage unit is mostly about what you are storing, how often you need access and whether you want room to move around inside the unit.
Start with what you need to store
Make a quick list of your largest items first. Furniture, appliances, tools, stock and bulky equipment usually determine the minimum unit size you need. Boxes can normally be stacked around those larger items.
3m × 3m units
A 3m × 3m unit is generally most suitable for the contents of a 2–3 bedroom home with a relatively small amount of furnishings. It can also work well for boxes, sporting gear, seasonal items and tools, depending on how efficiently everything is packed.
5m × 3m units
A 5m × 3m unit is a good general guide for the contents of a 3–4 bedroom home. It provides more flexibility for larger furniture, moving-house storage, renovation overflow and business stock, while still allowing room for an access aisle if required.
6m × 3m units
A 6m × 3m unit is generally suitable for the contents of a 4 bedroom home with a fair amount of furnishings. The extra floor area can also be useful for larger furniture, tools, equipment, business stock or longer-term storage where you want more room to organise items.
20ft containers
A 20ft container offers a broadly similar amount of usable storage space to a 5m × 3m unit, so it can be a useful alternative for customers with storage needs around that size.
Allow extra space for garages, sheds and bulky items
These recommendations are only a guide. If you already have a garage, shed or other area full of belongings on top of your household furniture and boxes, you will generally need more storage space than the recommendations above suggest.
Think about access, not just volume
If you need to access items regularly, choose a little more space than the bare minimum. Leaving a walkway can make a major difference to how practical the unit is over time.
Compare APEX locations
Unit sizes vary by location. Pittsworth offers 3m × 3m and 5m × 3m units, while Dalby and Nanango offer 6m × 3m units. Dalby also has 20ft containers.
